1984 Mt.Enon Missionary Baptist Church 2002
A group a baptized believers met at the residence of Dea. and Sis Harold Brown, 3629 Suitland Road, S.E., Washington, D.C. After careful forethought and prayer, Mount Enon was organized on a firm foundation. It was stated by Rev. W.J. Mason that we are not the founders of the church, God is, we are the organizers. Pastor Mason named the church.
The following person were present and charter members: Rev. W.J. Mason, Rev. Anthony Lee, Dea. Harold Brown, Sis. Nellie Mason, Sis. Eloice Brown, Sis. Bessie Neal, Sis. Thomasina Portis, Bro. Dennis McCrae and Bro.Frank Green.
Rev. W.J. Mason has proved to be a Christian, exemplifying great abilities as a preacher and spiritual leader, great organizer, counselor, teacher, a strong supporter of mission (home and foreign). He expressed deep concern about the members. His life is dedicated to seeking God and working for the betterment of mankind.
Mt. Enon held it's first opening Worship Service on Sunday, April 1, 1984, 8:00 a.m. at the dwelling on 1205 K. Street, N.E. D.C. Church School was held on 9:30 a.m. Bible Study was held each Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
April, 1984 - The Missionary Society was formed. Sis. Helen Green was appointed President by Pastor Mason.
April, 1984 - The Adult Usher Board was organized under the Pastorate of Rev. W.J. Mason. Sis. Burneise Smith was appointed President.
June 3, 1984 - The entire month of June was designated for, "Use Your Talent Month." Bro. Dennis McCrae donated $500.00 to the church for talents; each person was allowed to take part of this money, used it with his/ or her talents, and then return to the church the amount he/she had earned; through each talent, the money was multiplied many times. At the end of the month, the amount turned in with the additional talent was $2,500.
June 24-29, 1984 - Youth and Young Adult Revival Services were conducted with Rev. Cleveland Mason II, Associate Minister of New Shiloh Baptist Church, Baltimore, MD., serving as the Evangelist for the week. There were four (4) persons baptized on Thursday, June 28, by Pastor Mason. There were Brothers Anthony Bush, Eric Mitchell, Sisters Beverly Epps, and Beverly Keys
July 22, 1984 - Women's Day Services were observed. The 9:00 a.m. Speaker was Sis. Thomasina Portis of Mt. Enon, 11:00 am Speaker was, Sis. Benzena Lewis of Resurrection Baptist Church. The Theme was, Women Determine to Go, Glow and Glow. Chairperson, Sis. Eloice Brown.
Sunday, July 22, 1984 - After the 11:00 a.m. Worship Service, the Youth and Young Adult Usher Board was organized under the Pastorate of Rev. Mason. Sis Philis Stone was appointed President.
September 9, 1984 - National Baptist Convention, USA was held at the Convention Center. Mt. Enon was registered and represented. A photograph of our Pastor and congregation was in the souvenir booklet. Pastor W.J. Mason was then serving as Parent Body President of the National Capital Baptist Convention.
October 7-12, 1984 - Fall Revival begin nightly; the Guest Evangelist was Rev. Roscoe D. Cooper, Pastor of Fifth Street Baptist Church, Richmond, VA.
Thursday, November 11, 1984 - The Senior Choir was organized. Sis. Effie Morton was appointed President by Pastor Mason; musician Bro. Forman.
On Tuesday, March 12, 1985 - Pastor W.J. Mason expired. Dea. Harold Brown was in charge of the work of the church from March 85 - Dec 85. During that time there was preachers for all services each Sunday.
One December 5, 1985 - A Church meeting was called for the election of a Pastor Rev. Cleveland T.A. Mason can to Mt. Enon Pastor Elect on Dec. 15, 1985. He was installed on Sunday, July 13, 1986 as Pastor of Mt. Enon. Dr. Harold Carter was the Installation Preacher, Pastor of New Shiloh Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD. an evangelist, author and world-wide scholar. Rev. Cleveland Mason is a gifted and effective communicator of the gospel in teaching and counseling.
June, 1986 - Mt. Enon moved to another location at 1325 Branch Ave., S.E. Washington, D.C.
June 1990 - Rev. Cleveland Mason began a Biblical Evangelism Training. Every member of Mt. Enon gathered for an exciting motivational training session in Biblical Evangelism. People were leaving these sessions confident of their faith in Christian; empowered with knowledge that gives them greater boldness in their witness of Jesus Christ.
March, 1990 - Mt. Enon Media Ministry, "word of Life" a unique television ministry, aired on Sundays at 7:30 p.m. on Washington Cable Channel 34 (DCTV) until October, 1991.
Mt Enon moved to Arthur Capper Sr. Citizen Building a on the 1st Sunday in October. 1991
Rev. Cleveland T.A. Mason was called to Perkins Square Baptist Church. He departed from Mt. Enon the 3rd Sunday in October 1991. During the time after he departed, from Oct. 1991 to Aug., 1993, Dea. Harold Brown as in charge of the work of the church. There were preachers for all services
Rev. Sterling Swann, was elected for Pastor on July 25, 1993. He came to Mt. Enon on August 1,1993 as Pastor Elect. He was installed on March 27, 1994. The Installation Preacher was Rev. Carl V. Messiah, a great Gospel Preacher, Pastor of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Marbury, MD. Rev. Sterling Swann is a God sent Preacher, effective communicator of the gospel and teacher.
(1997) Under the Pastorate of Rev. Swann, we have purchased a building now under renovation.
Pastor Swann reinstated the Adult Sunday School, Thursday Night Prayer/Bible Class also the Word of Life Choir. He has proposed short range goals up to 2 years and long range goals (2 years to 5 years) and has implemented several programs in the church, to name a few, Christian Ed. Seminars, New Members orientation Class, Quarterly Leadership Class, Discipleship Class, Evangelism Program with the Missionaries, Ministry training, and organized a Youth Choir, The Angelic Messengers.
October 1997 - 3:30 p.m. was a joyous occasion; The dedication of our church, Mt. Enon Missionary Baptist Church, located at 329 34th Street S.E., Washington, D.C.
October 5, 1997 - 11:00 a.m., We are blessed to have officially moved to our new edifice "We Are A Church With A Mission and A Vision."
1998 - Some accomplishments made are: The Help Review Committee was established. This committee is composed of the Pastor and Missionaries and all departments of ministry heads; Youth Joy Night Workship Serviced held on Friday before the 4th Sunday of each month.
Jan. 99 - Oct. 02 - The program of Mt. Enon Missionary Baptist Church is ongoing and thriving under the leadership of Rev. Sterling R. Swann, Pastor
