Rev. Willie J. Mason, D.D.

Willie J. Mason was born in Saluda, South Carolina on December 22, 1938 to Marshall and Sally Mason. He was reared in Southwest Washington, D.C., where he attended public schools. He was a graduate of Dunbar High School of the District. He was also a graduate of American University, where he received a B.A. Degree; and Wesley Seminary, where he received a BTh. Degree. He furthered studied and completed courses at the Washington Bible College, Catholic University, Howard University - School of Religion for Urban Studies and Georgetown University School of Law. He was bestowed an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from the Baltimore College of Bible.

Rev. Mason was born a son of Friendship Baptist Church of Washington, D.C., where the late Rev. Dr. B.H. Whiting was Pastor. He was licensed to preach in March 1957 by the Friendship Baptist Church and the Baptist Ministers Conference of Washington, D.C. and Vicinity.

He was Married to the former Miss Nellie L. Jackson and is the father of three lovely daughters:Nichelle, Marsay and Sakeithia Mason

Rev. Mason was involved in many community activities. He was President of the National Baptist Capital Convention of Washington, D.C., and Vicinity, a member of the Board of Directors of the National Convention, U.S.A., Inc. and was a member of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Washington, D.C.

Rev. Mason traveled to Africa along with eighteen (18) other ministers, united in a "Foreign Mission Board Preaching Team." The team was divided into groups and went to several churches in Liberia to preach. The group traveled approximately 90 miles to Suehn Industrial Mission, where they talked with the Missionaries and inspected the work. The other places visited were, Nairobia, Kenya, Johannesburg and Blantyre, Malawi. While in Malawi they visited many of the National Baptist Missions.

Another experience, which was long remembered as a exciting one in the life of Rev. Mason, was when he and Sister Mason toured Europe and the Holy Land.

Rev. Mason was Pastor of Liberty Baptist Church from 1969 through June 1975. He was the Pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church from February 8, 1976 prior to organizing Mt. Enon Missionary Baptist Church on March 11, 1984; and pastored until he expired on March 12,1985.

We thank our Heavenly Father for such a jewel of a Pastor as Rev. W.J. Mason was.
