Matthew 5:43-45 (KJV) Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
How do you feel when you are wronged by someone? Do you feel happy or mad? Do you feel affection for that person or do you feel contempt? Yet Jesus, our Lord and Savior, tells us to love our enemies. Now how can we do that? How can we love someone who has just called us every foul name known to man? How can we love someone who has just stabbed us in the back all the while they were calling us friend? How can we love someone who has been responsible for breaking up our happy home? Yet Jesus tells us to love our enemies. How can we do that?
Well, my friends, We can Love our enemies because Jesus says that we can. When He is in our lives, he causes us to be able to do what we could not normally do by ourselves. This is what Jesus meant when he said, "But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven". With him in our lives he empowers us to love our enemies, bless them that curse us and pray for those who misuse us. In doing this we demonstrate that we are the children of God, for our Heavenly Father causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust.
Do you want to be able to love your enemies? Just open your Heart and allow Jesus to come in. He will cause you to do those things that now seem impossible for you to do. He will fill you with his Love, so that you can Love others, even those who do or have done you wrong.
